Housing

Buying a house in New Zealand is a relatively straight forward transaction. Typically you would find a property that was suitable, contact an agent and through them make an offer to the vendor (seller) of the property. It is rare to negotiate directly with the seller. In New Zealand, the commission on a house sale is paid entirely by the seller. In addition to the cost of the property you will also be required to pay legal fees to a lawyer to undertake conveyancing services. You would also be advised to obtain building reports from a registered builder and an independent valuation. Your real estate agent will be able to fully advise you on the process. The official site of the Real Estate Institute of NZ – the licensing and industry body to which licensed real estate agents must belong. It has a comprehensive list of homes for rent and sale.
